PROSTATE CANCER CLIMB, HIKE AND GATHERING IN THE YOSEMITE HIGH COUNTRY TO RAISE FUNDING FOR EDUCATION AND AWARENESS PROGRAMS

Prostate cancer veterans and their supporters from all over the United States will converge on Yosemite National Park to raise funding for prostate cancer education and awareness programs. This year's event will take place from September 19th to the 25th, National Prostate Awareness Month. The goal is to reach the summit of three of Yosemite’s highest peaks while building awareness about this epidemic disease that afflicts so many men and their families.

Unlike past Prostate Cancer Climbs that tackled Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, and Mt Aconcagua, the highest summit in South America, this year's gathering will offer challenges on a broader level. There will be three teams participating in the week's activities. An aggressive climbing team will attempt the summits of Unicorn Peak, Mt Hoffman and Mt Dana for a total elevation gain of over 7,000 feet. A hiking team will trek over 25 miles of high altitude terrain.  And a support team will offer moral and logistic support. All will share in nature's beauty while learning how to take proactive responsibility for prostate health.

Base camp will be at 8400’ in Tuolumne Meadows and will be the expedition's home for six days. Expedition members will participate in fireside lectures about prostate issues conducted by MD’s and other knowledgeable health professionals. A prostate healthy menu will focus the expedition on dietary measures for prostate cancer prevention and healing.

Ken Malik, the executive director of the Prostate Awareness Foundation and a participant in two prior Prostate Cancer Climbs says, “This will not only be PAF’s primary fundraising event this year, it will send a message to men and their families fighting the disease that there is the possibility of a rich and rewarding life after a prostate cancer diagnosis. Prostate cancer will affect over 200,000 men this year.  It’s time to put an end to this rampant epidemic.”

As in the past, contributions will come from individuals and socially conscious companies all over the United States. To learn how to be participate in the expedition or to help us in spirit, please call Ken Malik at 415-661-2691 or by email at kamalik@earthlink.net
